Remove all loose millscale, paint (that is not supposed to be there), old coating and the like by abrasive blasting or wire brushing.

File down all protruding sharp points and rough edges. Wipe off all moisture on the pipe with a dry, clean cloth.

Apply either Petroprimer by brush or Petropaste by gloved hand to the clean, dry pipe surface. Ensure a uniform coating over the entire pipe surface.

Avoid doing the priming application in wet or very dusty (with wind) conditions.

Please note that the Petroprimer is flammable and so all necessary precautions should be taken, specially with regard to open flames (such as cigarettes) near to the storage or application sites.

The Petrotape inner wrap shall be applied in a spiral form around the primed pipe with a 55% overlap. This ensures an effective double layer with an extra 5% allowing for any error at the joins of each spiral.

At the start of the wrapping and at the start of each new roll, do one entire turn over the end of the old roll before continueing with the spiral wrap.

Whilst applying the tape, ensure that sufficient tension is kept on the tape to provide a well bonded, wrinkle-free application. However, tension should never be so great as to cause the tape to stretch excessively and narrow the width and thickness.

The Petro PVC outerwrap should be applied in the same manner as for the inner wrap. The overlaps of the spiral outerwrap should not correspond with those of the innerwrap, but shall be in the middle of the innerwrap spiral so as to ensure that there are no lumpy sections of the wrapping.

If using the non-adhesive outerwrap, the termination of the outerwrap shall be means of a double strip of 48mm wide securing tape around the end of the wrapping.
